Guidelines for the workshop.

The students will build an animation in ALICE that approximates the movie on this page.

Preparation:

  1. Create a folder on the C: drive called Workshop1
  2. Copy the U:/wbm/grrltech_template to the folder.
  3. Start Alice
  4. Open the template from within Alice.
The template has the snow world and the iced lake for the skater.

Introduction

Brett will introduce Sharon, Jill and Casey
Brett will explain the roles - Sharon is our web designer who needs an animation
All the workshop participants are working for Sharon to help transform the problem into a digital form on the computer. Sharon will introduce the problem Brett gives an overview of ALICE

Sutdents will then add ALICE to the template - she will be moved up and then positioned stage right, rear.

- Sharon will explain the first steps. That we need to get Iceskater to skate.

Building the Problem

Brett will lead the programming of the first method for the Skater. This will be a right and left skate.
The skate will leave the legs up.
Check with Sharon
Stepwise refinement to lower the legs.

Get the skate step working.
Check with Sharon

Create a loop in World first method - skate 5 times.

Check with Sharon - she wants a spin on user command
Create the spin as a new method.
Invoke the spin as an event

Move the camera.
Lift head and blink
Say: "GrrlTech is Kewl!"
