National Girls Collaborative Project Grant Funded - 26 January 2010
Our proposed program is an academic and athletic collaboration to expose at-risk middle school girls to college  and possible careers in computing. Roger Williams University in Bristol, RI, will work with Girls Inc. in Taunton,  MA, to host an on-campus, half-day basketball clinic and computing workshop. The program will combine  basketball training with an introduction to computer animation. In Session 1, girls will practice basketball drills with members of the women’s varsity basketball team. In Session 2, female computing majors will instruct the girls to use the 3-dimensional computer program Alice to animate a figure to perform similar drills. The student mentors will join the middle school girls for lunch in the university cafeteria.
